Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 1, 2026
Last Updated: June 1, 2026
Clarius Finance Labs LLC ("Clarius", "we", "us", "our") operates the Clarius Money mobile app and the clariusmoney.com website. This policy describes what we collect, why, where it lives, and your rights.
We are based in Spring, Texas, USA.
1. What Clarius Money Is — and Is Not
Clarius Money is a personal budgeting app, not a banking app.
We do not connect to your bank, credit union, or card issuer. We do not import or read your real-world transactions. We never see your account numbers, card numbers, balances, or anything from a financial institution.
Everything in Clarius is what you type in:
- A budget you set ("$400 a month for groceries")
- A category limit ("$60 a week for coffee")
- A goal you want to reach ("save $2,000 for a trip")
- A note about something you spent ("$8.50, coffee shop, Tuesday")
We call this your budgeting data throughout this policy. When we use the word "transactions" we mean your own typed-in records of what you spent — not transactions from any bank or card network.
Where your budgeting data lives
Clarius is designed to keep your budgeting data on your device by default. Most of what the app does happens locally on your phone and never leaves it unless you explicitly opt in to cloud sync.
A short summary of what's on our servers vs. on your device:
| Always on our servers | On our servers only if you opt in | Always only on your device | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Sign-in identity | — | Everything else |
| Plus plan | Sign-in identity | Budgets, categories, your spending entries, goals, recurring payments | Everything not synced |
| Family plan | Sign-in identity, shared budgets, shared goals | Your personal budgets, your spending entries, goals (same toggle as Plus) | Everything not synced |
"Sign-in identity" means the small amount of account information described in Section 2. Cloud sync of your budgeting data is off by default on every plan that supports it; you turn it on from Settings.
Shared budgets (a Family plan feature) require cloud sync because multiple people need to see the same numbers from different devices. Creating or joining a shared budget will prompt you to enable sync.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Sign-In Identity (all users)
To use Clarius Money you sign in with Sign in with Apple. From that sign-in we receive and store on our servers:
- Your Apple user identifier (an opaque token Apple gives us; we cannot reverse it to your Apple ID).
- Your email address — this may be your real email or an Apple Private Relay address (
xxxxxx@privaterelay.appleid.com) at your choice. If you choose to hide your email, we never see your real one. - Your display name, if and only if you choose to share it on first sign-in.
- The subscription tier associated with your account (free, Plus, or Family).
This is the minimum required to associate your local app with your account so you can sign in on a new device, restore from a backup, or access the web dashboard.
2.2 Synced Budgeting Data (Plus and Family, opt-in only)
If — and only if — you enable cloud sync in Settings, the following data you have typed into the app is uploaded to our servers:
- Budgets and budget categories you've created
- Spending entries you've recorded (date, amount, category, optional note — all entered by you, never imported from a bank)
- Savings goals and contributions you've recorded
- Recurring payments you've set up to track
We use this data only to (a) restore your data on a new device, (b) populate the web dashboard at app.clariusmoney.com, and (c) power shared features on the Family plan.
We do not receive any data from financial institutions. We do not have read access to your bank, your cards, or any payment network. We never see real-world transactions — only the ones you typed in.
Cloud sync is off by default. You can turn it off at any time; doing so stops further uploads but does not automatically delete already-uploaded data (see Section 5 for deletion).
2.3 Shared Budgets and Shared Goals (Family plan)
If you create or join a shared budget or shared goal on the Family plan, the following are necessarily stored on our servers (this cannot be opt-out because the feature requires it):
- The shared budget/goal itself (name, amount, categories, period).
- The list of family members who are part of it.
- Each member's contributions to that shared budget or goal (so other members can see them in aggregate or per person).
Your personal (non-shared) budgeting data on the Family plan still follows the opt-in cloud-sync toggle in Section 2.2.
2.4 Family Membership
If you invite or accept an invite for a family member, we store:
- The family group membership and roles (parent / teen).
- The display names of family members (whatever they chose at sign-in; not necessarily their legal names).
2.5 Website Visitors
clariusmoney.com does not use tracking cookies, analytics scripts, or advertising pixels. We do not currently log visitor IP addresses for analytics purposes. The site is served as a static deployment and does not require accounts.
2.6 Diagnostics
Clarius does not embed any third-party crash-reporting or analytics SDK (no Sentry, Crashlytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Firebase, or similar). If you have enabled Apple's "Share with App Developers" diagnostics setting in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us; that's an Apple-controlled feature, not anything Clarius integrates directly.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your sign-in identity to authenticate you and route you to your data. We use your synced budgeting data (if any) to display it back to you on your other devices and on the web dashboard. We use family-membership and shared-budget data to power the shared features you opted into.
We do not:
- Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
- Build advertising profiles.
- Use your budgeting data to train AI models.
- Run analytics on your entries to recommend products from third parties.
- Connect to your bank, credit card, or any other financial institution.
- Receive or process real-world payment transactions on your behalf.
We may use aggregated, fully anonymized usage statistics (e.g. "number of active Plus subscribers this month") for internal product decisions and investor reporting; these statistics cannot identify you.
4. Data Security
4.1 On Your Device
Your local data lives in the Clarius app's iOS app sandbox, accessible only to the Clarius app. Your device's lock screen (passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID) is the first line of defense. Inside the app, you set a 6-digit PIN and can optionally enable biometric unlock (Face ID / Touch ID).
We are actively rolling out additional on-device protections. As of the effective date of this policy: the local database is stored unencrypted within the app sandbox; iCloud backups, if you have them enabled, are protected by iCloud's standard encryption. We do not yet apply at-rest encryption to the local database beyond Apple's default Data Protection.
4.2 In Transit
All network communication between the app and our servers uses TLS 1.2 or higher.
4.3 On Our Servers
Synced data (Section 2.2 / 2.3) is stored in a managed Postgres database (Neon, hosted on AWS in the US) and accessed via servers hosted on Microsoft Azure Container Apps. The provider encrypts data at rest by default. Access to the production database is restricted to authorized Clarius personnel via short-lived credentials.
We do not currently apply application-level encryption to synced data beyond the provider's at-rest encryption. We will update this policy if that changes.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
5.1 If You Delete the App
If you delete the Clarius app from your device and have not enabled cloud sync, all of your data is gone. There is nothing to retrieve.
If you delete the app and had enabled cloud sync, your local data is gone but your synced data remains on our servers, tied to your account. Signing in on a new device restores it.
5.2 If You Cancel a Subscription
If you cancel Plus or Family, your account remains; your synced budgeting data is retained read-only on our servers for 90 days so you have a window to resubscribe or export. After 90 days, synced budgeting data is automatically deleted from our servers. Your sign-in identity (Section 2.1) is retained so you can sign in again at the free tier.
5.3 If You Request Account Deletion
Email privacy@clariusmoney.com from the email associated with your account, or use the in-app "Delete Account" option (in Settings). We will delete your sign-in identity and all server-side data associated with your account within 30 days of receipt. This action cannot be undone.
6. Children's Privacy
Clarius Money is intended for users aged 13 and above. The App Store age rating is set accordingly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
Parents on the Family plan may invite their children aged 13 or older to join the family. The parent and child each have their own sign-in (with their own Apple ID) and their own privacy controls.
We do not currently support a verifiable parental consent flow for children under 13.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you. Email privacy@clariusmoney.com and we will return it within 30 days. For Free-plan users this is almost always just your sign-in identity (Section 2.1).
- Correct inaccuracies in your account data — most of which (display name, email) you can change directly in the app.
- Delete your account and all associated server-side data (Section 5.3).
- Export your synced data in a machine-readable format on request, or, for any local-only data, via the in-app Export function.
- Opt out of cloud sync at any time in Settings.
Residents of California, the EU, the UK, and other jurisdictions with applicable privacy laws have the same rights described above. Email privacy@clariusmoney.com for jurisdiction-specific requests; we don't differentiate between users by location — the rights above apply universally.
8. Third Parties
We rely on the following third parties to run the service. We do not share data with any third party beyond what is required for them to perform their function.
| Third party | Role | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign-In identity provider, App Store distribution, payment processing for subscriptions, push notifications (APNs) | Sign-in token exchange; subscription receipts; push notification tokens |
| Neon | Managed Postgres database for synced data | All synced data (Section 2.2 / 2.3) |
| Microsoft Azure | Web application hosting (Container Apps) | All inbound requests; no permanent storage of user data outside Neon |
| Cloudflare | Static hosting for clariusmoney.com marketing site | Anonymous request metadata (e.g. timestamps) for site delivery; no user accounts |
We do not currently integrate any:
- Advertising networks or trackers
- Social media SDKs
- Third-party analytics
- Crash-reporting SDKs (see Section 2.6)
- Email marketing platforms
- Data brokers
We also do not currently integrate a third-party subscription manager (e.g. RevenueCat). Subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple via the App Store; we receive receipts via Apple's standard server-to-server API.
If we add a subprocessor in the future, we will update this list and the "Last Updated" date.
9. International Transfers
Clarius is operated from the United States and our servers are located in the United States. By using the service from outside the US, you understand that your data will be processed in the US. We do not currently rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other transfer mechanisms because we do not have customers in jurisdictions that require them; if that changes, we will update this section.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Effective Date" and "Last Updated" at the top reflect the most recent change. Material changes (e.g. introducing a new subprocessor, expanding what is collected) will be announced in-app and via email to your account before they take effect.
